The Book of Psalms is the biggest book in the Holy Bible, with 150 chapters. Yet today, people do not read it very much. There are many reasons to read the Psalms and several life lessons that we can take from it. The book of Psalm is all about teaching us praise, thankfulness, faith, hope, sorrow for sin, the love of God, and His loyalty towards mankind. Moreover, at the heart of all the Psalms, there is a deep love and trust in God. This article below will walk you through a few of my favorite lessons from the Psalms. If you are interested, let me take you on this spiritual ride.
1. God’s Words are Pure & Perfect
The Bible teaches us that God’s Words are pure, flawless, and perfect compared to the words of wicked, sinful men. It would not be wrong to say that God has revealed Himself to us through His word. It is what He gave humanity to know Him. He gave us His Word so that we could differentiate between right and wrong. As it is written in the Book of Psalms (Psalm 12:6), “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.” Therefore, all we need to do is read the Bible and learn how God wants us to live as His Word keeps us from sin.
2. The Lord Is a Kind Ruler
There is no denying that there was, is, and will be only one ruler, and that is our Lord. We see a lot of suffering, pain, and sorrow in this world caused by human disobedience. However, God never turned away from His people and has been kind to us always. He has promised new earth and heaven for us to be close to our God, where there will be only one kind and just ruler. Therefore, wait for the time where there will be no suffering and pain, only happiness and joy. Before the time comes, God has given us hope, faith, and His word to follow.
3. God’s Word Never Changes
It is written in Psalm (119:8), “Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven.” So, this verse tells us that God is unchanging in His existence, and so His word. Whatever His attributes were before He created the heavens and the earth, they are still His attributes today. Moreover, whatever He said is right will always be right, and wrong will be wrong. We can entirely rely on His word as it cannot be changed. It is beautifully written in the Bible in Matthew 24:35, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will by no means pass away.” It tells us everything is temporary and changeable, but one thing that will always be the same is the Word of Our Lord.
4. We Should Consider the Poor
Psalm 41:1 says, “Blessed is he who considers the poor; The LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.” The Bible has hundreds and thousands of verses that teach us how God thinks of the poor people and loves those who consider the poor. Today, when the world has become so much progressive, everyone is just living their own lives. They do not see the poor man lying on the footpath when they go out to a fancy restaurant. However, this is not something that is expected of us. Being a good Christian and follower of Christ, we must consider the poor so that God delivers in the day of trouble. We must display them the same love Christ shows us. We should be generous and should always give to the needy as written in Psalm (37:21) “The wicked borrows but does not pay back, but the righteous is generous and gives.”
5. We Should Recognize the Need for the Thanksgiving
The Bible teaches us to glorify our Lord with thanksgiving. Psalm (69:30) says, “I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.” Even if there are little things, always praise the Lord and give thanks to Him for everything you have is because of Him. The Book of Psalm teaches us to give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love and wonderful deeds for humanity. Moreover, it tells us to praise the Lord by singing to Him and making music on the harp, for He is good.
